‘Tis the season… am I right?
The time for folks to feel just a little happier, more cheerful, eager to spend these chilly days with close family and friends – all to celebrate “the most wonderful time of the year.”
What some of us often lose sight of (especially during this usually joyful time), are those people who are less fortunate than we are – the people who sadly dread this time of year because they can’t provide for their family and surprise their children with special gifts for the holidays.
We at IIANC are so grateful for what we have, that we want to help spread some of our cheer to those who may not be as cheerful. And, we want to extend these two opportunities to our members to help make this holiday season more joyful:
iLEAD Book Drive
The iLEAD (Young Agents) Committee of IIANC is holding a book drive to collect new and gently-used books for the classroom libraries of elementary schools in need in NC. Suggested books include: Beginning Readers (books with 1-2 sentences per page and 2-4 letter words); I Can Read! titles (especially the My First, level 1 and level 2 books); All leveled children’s books; and Chapter books/series for 3-5 grades.
One of the specific organizations we are supporting is READWS, which focuses on children in Forsyth County (in the Triad area of NC) with an economic disadvantage that are least a grade below reading level. Many of the books on our Amazon wish list are specific requests from READWS.
Thank you to everyone who has donated thus far!
Zach’s Toy Chest
We will also be collecting items to donate to Zach’s Toy Chest, a non-profit helping pediatric cancer patients. This foundation was originally created to provide the children receiving cancer treatments something to pass the time with and make their day a little brighter. Their mission has been to help them focus on fun and play – not cancer, not the hospital. Cancer takes so much from us and the kids that they need this… and it helps the adults too. Zach’s Toy Chest works closely with both Duke and UNC Children’s Hospital and is currently working towards helping the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital in Greenville, NC.
Click here for a list of requested items. Please remember, all items must be brand new, from a pet and smoke free environment. Please do not gift wrap items.
We are collecting these items at our Holiday Open House on December 17th at our office in Cary. We hope you will join us!
Can’t attend our Open House in person? Please consider supporting Zach’s Toy Chest by purchasing item(s) from our Amazon Wish List. Purchased items will be shipped directly to IIANC and we will include them when delivering donations to Zach’s Toy Chest following the event.
